Tay Cher Siang Jazz Piano Masterclass

20120904 - Osaka-Tokyo - 2273Tay Cher Siang started his piano learning classical music. He took up an interest in Jazz during his teenage years and began to pursue his musical journey as a jazz pianist.

He received his Masters in Jazz Pedagogy under the tutorage of Dr. Miltenberger and Professor Scea.

Tay immerse himself in the education of Jazz and taught at UCSI University, UM, The Yamaha Music Academy and UPM. He is also teaching at his private studio, and giving master classes, jazz clinics throughout Malaysia.

Tay has been active in the Kuala Lumpur music scene since his return. He has performed in a variety of music festivals: Malacca Straits Jazz Festival in Riau, June 2007, and Penang Jazz Festival in Penang, November 2007, Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore in 2008 and 2009, Taichung Jazz Festival in 2010 and 2011, Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival in 2011, Langkawi One Earth Music Festival in 2011, Phuket International Jazz Fest in 2011, Thailand International Jazz Fest and Tianjin International Jazz Fest in 2012. He has taken part in the composing, arranging, production of several musical productions, including “Let’s Go Mamak” in 2007 and 2008, and “Break it Down” a choir jazz production in 2008, and a series of concerts under the “Chinese Oldies Revival series” produced by Poppopmusic, a local powerhouse music production team.

He is frequently invited by foreign artists to perform in No Black Tie, the premium jazz club in Kuala Lumpur, and has garnered a following of music enthusiasts. He is currently serving as the Music Director for The Venue at Pavilion KL. Tay’s main creative outlets are his own bands WVC TRiO +1 and Unit Asia, a multi-national jazz super group. With WVC TRiO +1, Tay has performed many concerts, both locally and abroad in tours and seminars. Three albums: WVC TRiO, Eleven, and {In The Dark, I See Her} were released. With Unit Asia, Tay has toured Singapore, Philippines, Brunei, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Egypt, Turkey and India in the past four years. Tay has contributed both his compositions and playing in Unit Asia’s albums: Unit Asia Live Debut, and Smile for You.

Tay has been promoting jazz in Malaysia for many years now, giving Master classes, talks, and seminar. He also educates many young rising musicians, in UCSI University, UM, Yamaha Academy of Music, and UPM.

In the field of Musical Theater Tay has involved in the production of “Yao Lee –The Legendary Rose” in 2012, and also composed music for film production: The New Village, in 2012.
