1st of August marked the second Chamber Choir and Concert Choir concert this year. All the students from both Chamber Choir and Concert Choir collaborated and took part in this concert which is held at the end of the semester.
Recently, the Chamber Choir represented UCSI University in the Grand Prix International Choir Competition-7th International Choir Festival, Pattaya Thailand. They brought home a gold medal from the Mixed Choir category and the Men’s chorus won a silver medal. However, both groups emerged as overall champions in their categories.
On the night of the concert, the recital hall in the Institute of Music was filled with people waiting for the concert to begin. The concert started at 8pm by the Concert Choir performing “Ah, dear heart” composed by English composer, Orlando Gibbons. The next two piece, “Setangkai Mawar” and P. Ramlee’s composition, “Menceceh Bujang Lapuk” were local tunes arranged by Malaysia’s very own arranger and choral instructor, Juliette Lai.
The next performance featured the male chorus from the Chamber Choir and their song, “Salvation is Created” won them a silver medal in the Grand Prix Pattaya competition. The first half of the concert ended with a joint performance by both the Chamber Choir and Concert Choir performing “Sure On This Shining Night”. The second half was filled with more fun and a variety of choral works. The Chamber Choir brought the show to a climax with their Philippine folk war song, Bal-laygi with their serious, but interesting choreography. The concert ended with another joint performance by both the choirs. The audiences were pleased with the performance enjoying every bit of it and cheered and applauded the choir performances.
